and i just realized that this month has had more frequent updates than any month in perhaps the last entire year. hooray. let's hope this is a trend. i think mp helps me in a psychological way.
... wake up in the morning and feel depressed, it seems as if the whole world is laughing at you in spite.
but it's not a big deal. i'm not talking about a graphics card but rather their motherboard chipset (nforce4 slix16 intel edition to be specific). overall it is very nice. it's not as clean and polished as an intel chipset -- but what is? really .. nobody will ever be able to touch the incredible craftsmanship of the 915 or 955 or 975 (just for recent reference) but that's beside the point.
my problem with nforce4 is the built-in audio support. when i built this new rig, i didn't think ahead about the sound. this gigabyte board has 2x pci-e x16 and 2x x8 slots. that leaves room for a couple pci-e x4 and 1x pci. that pci was occupied with an ide controller since ide is being phased out in favor of sata and this board shows that.
my creative soundblaster audigy2 platinum was left out in the cold. i just decided to use the onboard nforce4 audio. i mean, ya know .. it's nvidia. how bad could it be? ........ first off i have a 4.1 400w logitech setup hooked into my computer. the onboard audio refused to play my rear speakers no matter what port or software configuration i tried. on top of that, the bass wasn't fulfilling. i wasn't impressed at all.
last night i yanked the ide card. now i'm short 900 gigs. in it's place i went ahead and upgraded my sound to the creative soundblaster x-fi platinum. grabbed it for $150 w/ my best buy employee discount. ........ god damn. immediately my speakers started to scream at me with such joy and inspiration. i swear to satan, slayer has never sounded so good. right now i'm listening to trivium, same deal .. so clear and crisp.
i love nvidia. but when it comes to anything audio .. creative wins. every time.
... was pretty fun. i went to madison last night to chill for my friend's birthday. we hit the bar and got pretty wasted. then i made the drive back with my soberish driver around 4:00 am. i'm kinda tired today.
i'm feeling a lot less stressed out right now, since i dropped my bus adm 311 class (q.p.i.). i have a lot less work to do and shit to worry about. however, it sucks cause i'm just gonna have to retake it this summer. oh well.
at least there's a new grey's anatomy and boondocks on tonite.
instead of coming back home i got really fuckin baked again. i would say more to come but i have to go to work and really .. fuck it, who knows.

i still have a lot of hate inside me. i feel it when i wake up in the morning and look out my window and see the world moving about. for some reason, i wish it would just stop. freeze frame. pause. everything standing still.
if this really happened, i think it would make me feel peaceful. i wouldn't have to worry about keeping up with the world. i'd walk down the street, look up at the sky and see the clouds and sun frozen in time. this would bring a quaint smile to my face. i would laugh as i see all the people who were previously so wrapped up in their lives just standing there, motionless, their ambition and goals ripped away from them without even a whisper of a protest. i think it would make everyone truly equal. no race relations, rich, poor, you name it. just beautiful statues of lives that used to be.
am i fucked up for wishing this upon humanity? no.. i don't think so, i'm just a lonely stoner living in this cruel prison of an existence.

i would like to thank christy for the new layout/color scheme here at monkeyphish. hopefully she'll be on board for future theme changes as i imagine i'll be bored with this one in the coming months.
one thing i believe to be missing is a logo. something graphical and simple. perhaps a monkey .. fish. half monkey, half fish .. whole love machine. 'cause come on, everyone loves a monkey. and fish look neat on paper or taste superb raw and wrapped with rice and seaweed.

i picked up a xbox360 last year along with a hdtv compliant television. last week i built myself a new computer (specs to come later). i'm rockin' this rig with xp mce. one reason for doing so: the xbox360 can be used as a media center extender. my head filled with idea of streaming television, media and internet content streaming to my nice new tv via the x360.
i got the extender software installed on this computer. no problem. hit the little, green windows button. bam, nice. start navigating, add shared folders. this is pretty nice so far ........

The file type is not recognized and cannot be played. Either the correct codec (a file that compresses/decompresses audio or video) is not installed or the file is corrupt.
fuck, microsoft .. seriously. I can play divx on this mce machine. but on the extender, a big two fingered salute from the most insane corporation in america. turns out the media is actually decoded on the extender locally. on top of that, it doesn't pull codecs from the host machine. basically, have fun with wmv. and not even every wmv format is supported. thanks, ms .. for the memories.

holy shit there're some fucked up shenanigans going on over there. i won't go into the main fuck-up as there's going to be an investigation but in general, Best Buy 507 in Augusta, GA is a money hungry industry that cares about nothing except money. at least that's how the geek squad rolls. our new supervisor wants us to rip people off. he says we only need to sell what the customer needs but then five minutes later he'll start bitching about budget and how we need to make the most out of every transaction.
example:
i was standing at the counter and in the distance saw someone carrying a sony vaio desktop pc. my sup. told me to get $200 out of that guy. ... what? ... we don't even know his problem. turns out, a friend of his restored his pc with a windows disc (in other words, not the sony restore disc with drivers and apps) and didn't finish. drivers still weren't installed and the guy just didn't know what was going on. general procedure is $167 for our "complete solution" -- but he has a service plan. $108. he had no data to be backed up. he already had security apps. had enough ram and hdd space. there was nothing else i could/would sell him. i'm glad too.
there's one kid that works there that's been getting awards and shit for doing such a great job. he charges people a diagnostic fee when they have a service plan (in which case it should be free) and when they already have a security package like norton and spysweeper he'll sell 'em pc-cillin and pestpatrol and just uninstall the others -- for $256. great job, soldier! here's a medal.
do i think geek squad is complete shit? kinda, but not really. it depends on who you talk to. we provide a service for people that have no idea what's going on. 98% of the time, problems that walk in are stupid and could have been avoided with a little thought. yesterday -- this couple walked in with their laptop, said they couldn't access the internet with their built-in wireless. i didn't say a word, went straight to IE's internet options, unchecked the proxy box (which yes, in fact, was checked), connected to the geek_squad1 access point and .. omg? did google.com just pop up on the screen? i told them to have a nice day and walked away.
